Present:
- Our First Ever -
BANJO
CONTEST
On Saturday, January 23, AFF held its first ever banjo contest. Under the watchful eyes of judges Brian DeMarcus, Jay Marvin, and John Walsh, eight entrants laid down their best licks and gerimandered around their best jokes for the crowd. All entrants received certificates and some nice tokens of the Festival's appreciation in getting the contest kicked off successfully, including tickets donated by the Anchorage Concert Association, and gift certificates for Sack's, Marx Brothers, and Spenard Roadhouse restaurants. Congratulations to the winners in the following categories, each of whom took home a nice cash prize, complements of Richard Sanchis, proprietor of the Arctic Roadrunner restaurants:
Cheri Spink won the overall best player as well as the joke category and performed her stuff for the main stage audience at the Wendy Wiliamson Saturday night. She looked great in her spiffy red-sequined vest! Everybody enjoyed the fun, and we see big things happening with the contest next year!
