Saturday, January 19 | Irish Ceili Dancing Workshop

Learn a few new group dances in this flexible, traditional dance style with Lisa Maloney. Ceili (pronounced “kay-lee”) dances may be done in multiples of two, three or four people, and come in a number of configurations including lines, circles and sets. All ages very welcome. Younger children please bring an adult (you can tell them it’s good exercise!).

Sunday, January 20 | Learn to Waltz Workshop

Anybody can waltz and everybody should! Learn the dance that scandalized the seventeenth-century ballroom scene from the lovely Fabienne Cunningham and practice with a live band!

Sunday, January 20 | Irish Set Dancing Workshop

Lisa Maloney teaches the ins and outs of this traditional dance form, which is derived from the quadrilles of Europe. It’s typically done in groups of eight (sometimes four) and, if you’re feeling ambitious, can be embellished with percussive footwork called battering. No partner or experience needed. All ages welcome. Younger children please bring an adult (you can tell them it will be a good developmental experience for them!).

Saturday, January 26 | Sean-nos dancing Workshop

Learn the basics of this improvised, thoroughly relatable and traditional Irish dance style. We will focus on relaxed, “tidy,” low-to-the-ground percussive steps that are made up on the spot to suit the music. If you’ve ever seen Lisa Maloney dance solo, this is her favorite style, and anyone can learn to do it!
