AFF Music Camp 2007 will be the 8th year that the Anchorage Folk Festival has presented this music camp for adults and families. It has attracted students from all over the world, as well as local Alaskans, who come to immerse themselves in a week of traditional music and fun. From those with little or no experience, to those with considerable experience wanting to refine their playing, they left camp more enriched and inspired, with big smiles on their faces and a desire to want more.

Part of that is the excellent instruction given by our nationally well respected staff.

The other part is the good times they had outside of class; interesting conversations, playing music together, listening to great music, bad jokes, dancing, singing, meeting old friends and making new ones.

The camp is designed with the adult student in mind, although young people who are able to maintain an adult level of participation are welcome (students under the age of 18 must attend camp with a parent). Though dedicated to providing classes and staff for excellent instruction, the classes are fun. There are no exit exam requirements. Class sizes are kept small enough to get more personal attention from the instructor.

Folks with little or no experience will find classes geared to put them on the right path - all that's required is a desire to play. Somewhat experienced players will get expert instruction to hone their skills, while those even more advanced will learn subtle nuances to refine their playing.

The day is divided into 2 morning classes and 2 afternoon classes. Many students find that one or two classes give them plenty to work on, and use the free periods for practice or relaxation. Every afternoon provides an opportunity for informal blackboard gatherings, where students can lead or participate in jam sessions or workshops not formerly offered by the camp. Evenings are filled with concerts and dances as well as many informal porch sessions with staff and students.

The camp is great for the entire family. We offer age appropriate activities for children ages 4-12, many based around music and dance, so the parents can enjoy their classes. Non-musician partners are welcome. The camp is a great place to hike, bike, and relax.
